When I found out that I was nominated for the Spring 2014 Language and Culture in Cuenca program through Ohio University and CEDEI, I didn't realize how soon my journey would begin. I don't leave the United States until mid-January, so all I needed to do was buy my plane tickets, right?
WRONG. An OU study abroad trip, particularly for a whole semester, starts as soon as you turn in your deposit and accept your nomination on the Office of Education Abroad's website. After that comes a flurry of activity -- from getting a physical examination, to updating immunizations, to taking an extra class in preparation for the trip, to attending both the Bobcats Abroad and Registration Fest on campus, to getting fingerprints done for a background check and mailing in everything else for a cultural exchange visa, my to-do list seems to have grown every day. The last month has gone by unbelievably fast...finals are in a week! But it is all worth it. So why am I writing this blog post? Well, if you're reading this and you want to study abroad, I'm about to share a few tips that I wish someone had shared with me prior to the last month of my life.
