...pero no hablo mucho Español.
Okay, so I know a little more than that. However, I know for a fact that my conversational Spanish could use some work. A lot of work. But that's part of the reason why I have chosen to spend a semester living with a host family, taking classes in a language I don't know a lot of and being away from home for almost four months. I want to improve my language skills so that (potentially) I could spend more time abroad. In this global era, it is so important to be culturally aware and to know multiple languages. Even the New York Times published a "Room for Debate" about the importance of studying abroad (this, in fact, was a major deciding factor for my parents when we were still debating the pros and cons of me living in South America for a semester). As a journalism student who (thinks she) hopes to report overseas someday, it is even more important. So check back in a couple months -- I leave the US in January.
